School of Aesthetic Medicine

An increasing large number of doctors, today in Italy, deal with Aesthetic Medicine since the requests from a numerous and demanding clientele raise. The lack of academic courses of specialization in the new discipline (even for the complexity to realize a multidisciplinary teaching) has created, along the years, operating doctors with a relative, non integrated, decisively uncompleted competence.

The Fatebenefratelli Foundation, in collaboration with the SIME (Italian Company of Aesthetic Medicine) and with the scientific contribution of professionals, members of medical and academic institutions, has promoted and realized in 1990 the post academic school of Aesthetic Medicine.

In addition to creating an opportunity of a specific and qualified education, thanks to the consents obtained in the world of research, in Italy and abroad, the International School of Aesthetic Medicine represents, nowadays, a scientific and cultural distinguished reference that brings a significant contribute to the society and to the public health.

DIDACTICS AIMS

The Aesthetic Medicine is a medical discipline that deals with  the construction and the reconstruction of the individual psychophysical balance and it addresses essentially those who live uncomfortably their lives because of badly accepted blemish.
It is fundamentally a preventive medicine and then corrective. After an in-depth study of the patient through a standardized diagnostic approach (Aesthetic Medicine check-up) in the preventive phase, the doctors teach how to “Know” and “accept” the inherited physical structures to protect and manage them according to the hygienical rules of the life: dietary, physical, psychological and behavioral, cosmetological.  In the corrective phase the program benefits exclusively of official methodologies and techniques: medical-surgical,   physiotherapeutic, thermal and cosmetic.

LEARNERS AND GRADUATES

The School, located in Rome, is at its  31st Year of Didactics. So far 1448 Italian and foreign doctors graduated.

Organizational notes

The didactic activities of the Academic Year are carried out in 4 modules developed in 1 week each, for an amount of 200 hours per year, in addition to a mandatory practical internship expected from the second year course.

An annual exam is expected for all learners who attended regularly. At the end of the four years, after the discussion of a drafted and experimental thesis, an Educational Certificate in Aesthetic Medicine is provided. From the second year of the course, under the supervision of a dedicated Tutor the learners can have individual tests of check-up of Aesthetic Medicine and of treatments on patients. The role of the Tutor goes along the practice educational path of the learner, both in the didactic branch and in the Practice Service of the Aesthetic Medicine.

For each year of the course Seminars are integrated in the didactics for which the attribution to all learners of the School of ECM credits (Educazione Continua in Medicina – Updated Education in Medicine) will be requested to the National Committee for Education. The attendance to the Seminars will allow the learners to acquire 50 course credits requested by The State-Regions Agreement of 19th April 2012.

The International School of Aesthetic Medicine –FIF has opened since 21st March 1994, at the General Hospital “Saint John Calibita “ Fatebenefratelli Tiber Island of Rome, the practice service of the Aesthetic Medicine to the public. It has been the first experiment  on hospital practice service of Aesthetic Medicine to which the Fatebenefratelli Foundation has added a new location in Milan since 1999, at the Italian Institute of Aesthetic Medicine. The aim of the Aesthetic Medicine is to host the practice internship of the doctors registered at the School and of the graduates and to offer its services to a wide range of social classes at  hospital fares. It guarantees, therefore, the best opportunity to benefit from an Aesthetic medicine of high level, essentially preventive, to those people who are living a discomfort in their lives for a badly accepted blemish.
